RD - whatever you do - do it because that is your nature, not a motive, so you won't be affected by the consequences. An Indian saying:

A sadhu sitting on the edge of river trying to save a scorpion that somehow ended up in the water. Every time sadhu picks it up, it stings and sadhu drops him again due to the pain. This keeps happening and another person sitting at distance watching this episode says to the sadhu - if you know that this going to sting you then why are you keep picking it up? Sadhu says, saving its life is my nature, and stinging is its nature. I am performing my karam and it is performing its karam.
