I spoke with ALRT CEO Sidney Chan and it sounds like things are about to get very exciting. Although they are still waiting to hear back from some of the Canadian pharmacy chains they pitched to, they are heavily focused on government health plans in over 10 countries.

Mr. Chan said they have now clearly defined who they (ALRT) are, and who their targeted customer should be. He said they are going after the payers, which I assume is why they are going after government health plans since they have the most to gain financially from diabetes management. He also said they have been too timid in telling the world what they are about out of fear of offending the doctors, but it sounded like all of that is about to change too.

He said that they believe the key to large scale success is going to come from proof of concept in the form of a large scale demonstration (such as one of these government agencies). I believe many of the hurdles they have seen in getting major manufactures/suppliers/insurers onboard will go away when they can not only provide hard data on the savings and health benefits, but also show the system in use for a large amount of people. He said that the target is to yield $10 a month per patient that uses their system in countries that can afford it, and to adjust the price model for less affluent countries.

$10 monthly would be $12 million yearly for just 100k patients and $120 million for 1MM patients. As of 2014 there was an estimated 422 million people living with diabetes worldwide.

Check out these stats from diabetes.org
In 2015, 30.3 million Americans were living with diabetes
$327 billion: Total costs of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2017
$237 billion for direct medical costs
$90 billion in reduced productivity

I expect the first deal (hopefully we'll get a few governments to come onboard around the same time) to cause a domino effect making future deals exponentially easier and faster. GL
