Months after the unveiling and official launch of its ‘Tesla Semi’ electric truck program, the company is still accumulating orders for the vehicle a year ahead of production.

It has now received another order for Earth Day.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Tesla Semi secured another large order of 50 electric trucks from a truck renting and leasing company.

It followed several other important orders, including Anheuser-Busch, who ordered 40 Tesla Semi trucks, 125 electric trucks from UPS, 50 trucks from Bee’ah, and 20 from FedEx.

But smaller companies are also ordering the new electric vehicles – they are just not getting as much attention for it.

Florida-based furniture retailer City Furniture announced that they reserved 5 Tesla Semi electric trucks for earth day:

It might seem like a small order, but it’s still a significant investment for a relatively small retailer.

Tesla first started taking reservations with a $5,000 deposit per truck, but has later changed the listed deposit price to $20,000 for a “base reservation” of the production version and the full $200,000 for the “Founders Series” truck.

It means that City Furniture’s deposit alone might be worth $100,000 while the total order can add up to $900,000.

At the unveiling event, Tesla revealed two electric truck options with 300 and 500 miles of range.

After Tesla revealed the pricing of its electric semi trucks, we learned that the regular production versions for the 300-mile and 500-mile range versions will be $150,000 and $180,000 respectively, while the company is also listing a ‘Founders Series’ version for $200,000.

It’s more expensive than a typical diesel truck, but buyers should be able to save on the cost of operation, which Tesla expects to be significant after accounting for fuel and maintenance savings.

As we previously reported, Tesla Semi is currently deep into its test program.

Prototypes have been spotted around the US in the last few months after completing their first cargo trip with battery packs from Gigafactory 1 to Fremont factory.

During the trip, it appears that the Tesla Semi was stopping at the headquarters of some of the companies that have placed orders for the electric truck, like Anheuser-Busch and PepsiCo’s headquarters.

The vehicle is expected to enter production in 2019.
