Here is the scary thing about all this - the US cannot build a fighter jet without getting chips (Integrated Circuits) from China / Taiwan. The US does not have a single chip manufacturing plant that I'm aware of that can manufacture an IC from start to finish. I think Intel, Micron, Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, and some of the other big chip designers in the US need to figure out how to build a couple of chip manufacturing plants in the US - the Defense department should probably help fund the plants. It's not just fighter jets, battle ships, subs, missiles, I think just about everything related to defense requires chips of some sort.
