Vidalia is home to the Sydney A. Murray, Jr. Hydroelectric Station, with offices in Vidalia and the actual plant located approximately 40 miles to the south. The city has its own utilities system and is able to keep rates low thanks to the forethought of Mr. Murray, a former mayor of Vidalia.
