The one thing the author misses on is Hahn was wanting to do a full rebuild all the way back in 2014, but Kenny and Jerry wanted to keep going for it with FA's and trades. It took that Shields trade for Hahn to finally get his way. That said, they may have a chance to get so good, so fast because they waiting. If they had moved earlier, they would not have had the value contracts of Sale, Eaton and Quintana to get that huge fast influx of talent.

Now this year, they are actually bordering on being able to contend for the WC if things break right, but Sox fans have to hope that does not come to fruition. They have a chance for one more big influx of talent at the deadline this year. Wellington Castillo being a good defensive C that can rake at the plate is a huge chip as there are always contenders with weak catching. Nate Jones if his arm is healthy and he proves it could bring in another big haul. The rest of the BP arms can bring in decent prospects as Hahn proved last year and you never know which ones are going to break out. Then possibly Avi if Jimenez is ready for the bigs by the deadline.

They already have an extremely deep farm system in both position players and arms and will get deeper with a draft where they have a high pick. If they can further line the system with one more influx at the deadline this year, they could set themselves up for outright years of contention. No WS guaranteed, but they will be in the hunt for a decade, which would be fun!
