I am going to break a confidence and tell all of you something that was told to me and it might better explain things.
Two years ago, when we were first starting out fabricating parts for the Strat 1, Huff flew to California to observe the onset of manufacturing. At that time, he revealed to me that he was in failing health. He did not elaborate on the subject nor did he confide in me the nature of his illness.
I think this situation may have been the reason Huff tried to move GTE ahead at such a frantic pace. Completing deadlines in a timely fashion was obviously of paramount importance to him. The Internafta deal must have looked like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to him. I don't think he would ever knowingly put out a false PR. His dream of bringing GTE to full bloom was too important.
You can take this small snippet of information for what it's worth. It might help explain some things in your own mind.
