jbog, I got to tell you a story about taconite and politics in the 1970's. My college roommate was a chemistry major, and killed me in chess, lol. Great bridge partner though, he and I were the dorm champs. Part of his state job after college he tested the water in Lake Superior off of Silver Bay 5 days a week for taconite residue. They found traces, but he told me the water was plenty safe to drink, well within federal guidelines. He said he'd drink it any day over city(shity) water. But it did have minute traces of iron and they shut down the taconite plant anyway and the news made it sound like the plant polluting the lake. My friend said the iron was probably in the water was naturally there, in his opinion.
