"MY guess" - That's the problem in a nutshell. Moran doesn't give out any information so we are left guessing. Fact is, nobody (including me) has a clue what's happening. No one here (including me, has a crystal ball on the future). Nevertheless, here's my guess based on what I think are the balance of probabilities:
-Fins are horrible
-Merger is off
-There is nothing good to report
-Moran is in prep mode for political office, so

...he doesn't want anything bad out that would further taint his image... so,

he decides to go stealth, say nothing, and hope that he can stall long enough to move on to his next (likely failing) venture.

Total guesswork, but this doomsday scenario is quite viable given my read of the current situation.
