I'm trading another stock at low volume, lately and the MMs have been more aggressive then I have ever seen.
If I put in say a 5000 share bid, they will hit it for 20 shares, then jump my bid, meaning I have to then pay for the 20 share order to change to bid price to be the high bidder. They put up 1000 share asks so no one can purchase a large amount of shares on the ask. Sometimes they put up huge bids and if I put a small sell order in, the bid goes away. I've seen them put up huge asks, then drop the order, then put it back up trying to start panic selling. When heavy retail volume happens they will stop the manipulation, but after the volume dries up they continue trying to manipulate people trading one way or another. If I put in a order to sell, they will aggressively jump me. I have to let the buying come to me or they will try to use my order to drop the share price as far as possible. And the absolute worst is when my order gets hit, but they keep the shares. Or the other day, I was the high bidder, they drop my order for 10 seconds off l2, and hit the bidder a half a cent lower than me; I have seen that a few times now--my order mysterious drops off of l2 for a few seconds and the order goes to a lower bidder. It is getting bad on low volume otc stock.
