The report by the Chicago-based Alzheimer's Association estimates that 5.5 million Americans age 65 and older are now living with the disease, 220,000 of them in Illinois alone. Alzheimer's-related deaths increased nationally by 123 percent from 2000 - 2015. By 2025, the organization expects an 18 percent increase in Illinois and an increase of nearly 29 percent nationally.

The disease's increasing prevalence has a major economic impact too. The study found that the average projected cost of health and long-term care for an individual with Alzheimer's can range from $360,000 - $424,000.

IMO, this kind of information does not get enough analysis and the full daylight of congressional/government review. How is it that the entire med/pharma and regulatory enterprise has not been able to get itself organized and focused over the past 20+ years? Just not right. And now we are in the queue while FDA and political hacks manage their priorities. Better late than never I guess.

Another observation is our oldest citizens will die broke as their personal wealth is being taken. They have no life and cannot help or enjoy their families. They have no voice or power and are easily ignored. AD has been very big business and it is getting bigger. The last thing some want to hear is that some fool has found an effective treatment for CNS diseases. We are on the point. Pixxes me off. This could go on for years.
