normally MBS Trusts sell the value of the future dividends and principal pay back (which is irregular) in return for cash now

they are not income generators for the issuer but rather capital raising "preferred stock that looks like a bond". The issuer gives up right to the underlying mortgage principal and interest flow in return for the money received from "selling them away"

That is what I bought by buying PIERS - which were a trust - and I am the one being paid not the LT
