Platforms would prove to be more economical over the life of the fields. 30 year fields would almost certainly at some point start producing NG as well. A platform could be modified/enlarged to handle what they needed.

Water depth is another issue to think about. A 400' trip is a walk in the park compared to a mile or more up to the surface. A platform could be fitted to meet exact requirements as needed.
