IMO good write-up by valuationguy on the other IDCC board (IV) regarding IDCC's acquisition of technicolor.

The following is an excerpt from his post..

3) matches Interdigital's SDR codec and 360 degree Video codec standards efforts with Technicolor's HDR codec standards efforts to try and ensure both company's technology have leading positions in H.266 standardization efforts (the new standard effort to replace HEVC (H.265)...which itself replaced MPEG4.0). Testing for candidates for H.266 has already begun...and to-date test results indicate both companies contribution efforts show their proposals are leading submissions from competitors Samsung, FastVDO, and Qualcomm in performance....and showing reduced bit rates of 40-50% from the current standard (HEVC H.265). (Note that this standard is designed for use in 4K-16K screens....which mobile operators like Apple are driving with their OLED displays...not to mention the consumer electronics cos..i.e. TV manufacturers.)
