The Pennsylvania Department of Health approved two more medical marijuana dispensaries, one that's in Montgomery County and another in South Philadelphia.

Chamounix Ventures received state approval to open a dispensary at 367 S. Henderson Road in King of Prussia. Chamounix is operating its sites under the name Keystone Shops. Its first dispensary in Devon opened last month.

Skip Shuda, the company's chief operating officer, said the Devon site served more than two hundred patients before they had to temporarily shut its doors after running out of inventory. "We expect to re-open by the middle of the month," he said. "The good news is two more growers are expected to be online [and have product available] by the end of this month."

To date, Cresco Yeltrah in Brookville, Jefferson County, is the only of the 12 grower/processors of medical marijuana issued permits from the Pennsylvania Health Department supplying product to dispensaries.

Keystone Shop's third dispensary, expected to open later this year, will be on Packer Avenue in South Philadelphia. Shuda said they just received state approval to switch from a proposed site in Upper Darby to the Packer Avenue location.

The other dispensary operator to receive state approval Friday was Cansortium Pennsylvania for its site in Penn Township, York County.

In addition, the health department announced AES Compassionate Care in Chambersburg, Franklin County, became the final grower/processor to begin operations.

Each week, we are making great strides in expanding our network where patients with a medical marijuana card can get medical marijuana,” said Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf in a statement. “The approval of two more dispensaries and our final grower/processor is another positive step forward.”

More than 21,000 patients have registered to participate in the medical marijuana program. From that number, more than 6,000 have been certified by a physician. More than 2,200 patients have already received medical marijuana at a dispensary.

Pennsylvania's Medical Marijuana Program became effective on May 17, 2016, and is expected to be fully implemented late this year. The program makes medical marijuana accessible to patients who are residents of the state, and under a practitioner’s care for the treatment one of the qualified serious medical conditions listed in the law.
