As a millennial, I have a pretty good eye for what is trending on social media. I also work in sales management and operations and am responsible for tracking trends and customer behaviors to ensure profitability. I have a BA in psych and an MBA in management aka I have people skills. It is basically my job to have my finger on the pulse of what people are going to do next, especially when it comes to spending money.
I have been tracking the speed at which this has been shared and the overall momentum. People initially showed sympathy and outrage until he started pushing his quickly formulated hashtag, at which point the shares started to slow and a few people started to push back on his facebook account expressing that they felt that this was not an appropriate response. The entire situation started to feel disingenuous and the slowing in the trend shows this.
Most of the angrier respondents said things along the lines of "I will never go there!!". Based on where they are located geographically, they probably never would have gone in the first place. The surrounding community has strongly defended S&L while those who are the most outraged are people that are, again, not even locals. Many are not even citizens of Canada. We have a lot of keyboard outrage...the typical I'm sharing this because it makes me ANGRY and then is quickly forgotten about.
There have been a few negative review posted by fake account claiming they were victimized by S&L, claiming that it happened to them last weekend...they can't all be Kareem. It's smoke and mirrors and fake. And the fire is not catching. Basically, nobody cares.
The alleged victim in this situation has been silent for days after having been very vocal initially. My guess he is seeking legal action and is having the door slammed in his face, or he just figured out on his own that this is going absolutely nowhere.
The final kicker is that it has been revealed on several social media posts, including Reddit, that the server is a person of color. So there's that.
These are all my opinions based on my observations of the situation over the course of the last two weeks.
