Wow. Hirscher just went out in the first run of the slalom! So, ONLY two golds for him...
Shiffren had three dnf's in late Jan/early Feb.... which, I think were the first times she had failed to finish a WC race.....
I was 23 when I started.. on leather lace ups that I got for $2 at Goodwill, rental 100's, then 130's an hour later. Never snowplowed. First day, there was a foot of cut pow and was hopping jerky parallel turns around. Caught some tiny air on day 2. Dropped about a 50' foot cliff (total drop) my second year, in tandem with another fella. Was skiing Adrenalin a bit that year, at Alpental, starts at 50-55 degrees, mellows to 40.... it's a side variation of the famous Internationale.
First skis where Kazama Foam 880's bright orange, 185's metal. I bent them. Thought freestyle was cool, so had a couple pair of Olin Mk IV's, a bump oriented ski. Then Rossi ST Comp's 203's had three pair of Rossi SM's in 207.. a bit long, but that was the thing back then..and I'm only 5'9'' 165... well, that was then, I'm freakin chubby now... it sucks
Dropped Corbett's at Jackson Hole in 77-78 winter, my fourth complete season and first year of a season's pass at Crystal. Skied 156,000 vert in 5.5 days of skiing at the Hole...some epic pow! Had spent a couple days at Sun Valley and several at Alta/Bird on the same epic trip, sleeping in my van...
