As part of routine workup before the diagnosis of Alzheimer's is applied B12 folate anaemia chronic renal failure hyper or hypothyroidism are excluded. A CT scan is performed to exclude a chronic subdural haematoma and multi infarct dementia. I, as a humble country GP in Australia, would do these things before referring to a Neurologist so I am not embarrassed at doing less than the bare minimum.
