Some years ago I sat next to a Ford engineer on a long flight to somewhere. He and I got talking about cars, my hobby of racing vintage cars, Ford and where car companies were headed. He asked me a very interesting question at the time.

"Do you consider Ford a Car Company or a Technology Company?"

That changed the rest of our discussion for the remainder of the flight. I have to say, Ford, along with many other manufacturers are more tech companies today than just building transportation.

The P/E for a tech company on average is far higher than it is for Ford. If Ford is really a tech company in disguise then it's P/E is quite modest and its dividend is quite generous.
