How long does this surgery take? Spinal fusion can take as little as 2 ½ hours, and as long as 6 or 7 hours, occasionally even longer. How long it takes depends on the number of vertebrae being fused, how badly the vertebrae are diseased, whether spinal nerves are pinched and need to be decompressed, and whether there is scarring from prior surgeries. Your doctor will give you a rough idea how long it will take, but may not know until the surgery is in progress.



Certainly you average this out you are not wrong but it can be as little as 2.5hrs. I have no idea how beckerspine got its statistics but if spine surgeons only did 6 procedures a month that would mean there would need to be at least 100k spine surgeons just in the US as more than 600k surgeries are performed.

As far as all the different devices, Amedica doesn't need them all but more are being developed. Any acquiring company would have a more complete portfolio. Its about the material that the acquiring company can adapt to use with its various products...like adding a Si3N4 coating to people screws.
