red sox will not be great without JD they need a big bat in the middle of the lineup if they think nunez is gonna close the gap between them and the yankees or better yet them and being a contender to get out of the Al they got another thing coming. I hate paying JD that insane contract, But then again, that is why I was a big backer of going after bruce which thankfully my metsies did. But serious if they had a hole at 3b they could go after moustakas (but they don't), basically to me the only two choices they have at this point is either getting a dh/of type, or getting a 1b. They need a guy who is a 30-100 guy in the middle of the lineup the only guy who fits that criteria is JD martinez, so they will not win without him, at least nothing other that a possible wildcard and first round bouncing, if they don't add a piece and a big one in the middle of that order.
As I said I don't think JD martinez is a great contract compared to the bargain bruce was, but he is the only difference maker bat in and area of need. I guess they could dh moustakas that would be another way to go. Might be the smarter way to if they could get him on a decent deal.
