Yes but one could argue nelson was the ace of that staff, and quite frankly he won't be there for at least the first couple of months by reports this season. I admit they helped themselves a ton by adding the player that they did. But they need Another quality pitcher to compete with the cubs it is simple as that.
As for the mets They need the pitching staff to say somewhat healthy now they have 8 guys who have potential but degromm and syndergaard in my opinion must remain healthy and then get 3 of those other 6 to help. if they did the right thing and went after a lynn or a cobb it would help significantly. The 1b situation does concern me, because I think even if dom smith kills it, and the options are available that become cheap such as duda or morrison, they will ride with A-gon no matter what, even though he is done, and that is a major concern that I'm gonna be screaming about him making errors at 1b, and leaving villages on the bases everyday. I hope I'm wrong and they come to the realization quickly that he is done. Too bad they just didn't do what I wanted and bring back Lucas duda instead of a done A-gon, that is what we call a dumb move in my opinion.
They are also short in the bullpen and arm they need to get another lefty I mean the only lefty they have out there is blevins. This team still has some significant holes that could be covered up if the mets went just a little more. Keep in mind mets payroll is artifically higher every year by about 15 million because wright never plays and they collect 15/20 via the insurance.
The mets have enough especially in this division to compete if they stay healthy but they could be a serious rival if the mets made just a couple of more smart moves we need abad or watson in the worst way, you can't go in with 1 lefty out of the bullpen. that is a major mistake if they do. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
