About 20 years ago I was listening to Howard Goldberg tell me that convergence would be the key to something big for IDCC. I did not fully understand the idea and probably still do not because of my deficiency in science. However, I now believe that it may mean the technology needed to coordinate all matters wireless into a global system of compatibility and operation creating enormous savings on both platforms and participating terminals. I believe the IOT and 5g is the end result of the perfection of the term "convergence". It has taken 20 years for the engineers around the world to perfect this mousetrap that IDCC engineers were envisioning before global standards were really cool. Despite monetization woes throughout the history of wireless technology, the engineers have remained consistent and brilliant. I posted years ago that engineers are just different and receive their satisfaction from making their innovations work rather than receiving material things and greenbacks. So here we sit watching things considered to be impossible several years ago become a reality and we cannot come close to feeling the satisfaction of the engineers. We want our monetary rewards to be big and immediate while the engineers just are moving on to their next impossible dream. Getting upset over the Street evaluation at this time is not good for our health and attitude about life. We have just had a mousetrap accepted in the standards involving what many believe will be the biggest economic sector move in the history of the USA. We also have our engineers chairing standards committees. My grandmother told me that patience is a virtue and I am just finally understanding her words seventy years later. Sam and Dave are ringing in my ears telling me to "hold on" as the Sax players perform the cornerstone of the R&B sounds. Successfully defended patents, successfully accepted in 5G standards, megabucks being spent on the IOT reality, an investment in a company with less than 40 million shares outstanding, an industry about to explode and a welcome attitude of American inventors first has rekindled the excitement I felt in the 1980's listening to two phone men in a bar explain the new wireless frontier. Best of luck wished on the old and new longs.
