What?? Is this a typo? The guy has major heart surgery and an artificial heart implanted in order to live one month? I must be missing something here. If this new invention is only good for a month, I'm dying to hear their sales pitch. Imagine being a marketing man assigned to that product. I suppose the idea is a temporary fix while waiting for a transplant, but I didn't see that part.
Most likely, they took a patient who was going to die anyway - the person was probably already in system-wide organ failure. they just wanted to see if the heart could function in a human.
Other procedures will have a longer life expectancy.
I don't see this as a bridge to transplantion - they alreay have good functioning artifical hearts for that - they work, and they are somewhat portable.
Personally, I see this as an alternative to transplantation.
