gejebr3, Blackrock tries to have some small unique companies in their various specialty funds. The problem they have let's say with an IOT fund is if they include just the big companies like msft,goog,qcom, etc. they are no different than any other fund. That's why they the small companies. It also makes it difficult for other fund makers to duplicate them as there is not enough stock available. Most people on this board complain that no large house follows IDCC and lack of stock is why they don't. Imagine if Merill Lynch recommended IDCC their clients might need 75-100 M shares. It is unusual for Blackrock to hold 15% of IDCC just for difficulty of liquidity. Of course if it gets bought out that problem is solved. For perspective on their 15% it is $420M out of their $5+ Trillion under management.
