They said they don’t typically do follow-up stories because it’s “old news”

...and of course persistent improvement would be "new news". Progression of disease is depressing, not interesting, and makes them have to admit the original story was sensationalized (and it was). We can get an idea of follow up because the patients featured in that story are identified by study number in an early list of possible improvements. That can be compared to the more recent blood concentration results.

@Xena: The idea that a follow up would be an invasion of privacy is preposterous. They can choose to be interviewed and share details as they wish. If they had something positive to say they are far more likely to agree but point is moot given the newspaper's indifference.
