In the early days, I'd not put into place many of the procedures I now have added to my AIMing. Yes, living expenses during bearish times worked against my AIM buying needs. With 20/20 hindsight I can see that buying could have continued with "Margin" buying, but I've never done that.
My market risk indicator had never gone anywhere near the zero mark from 1982 through 2007. In late 2008 and early 2009 it actually showed "negative cash reserve" being suggested. In other words, just as the market bottomed, it gave its blessing to Margin buying.
If I had allowed Margin buying then, maybe I would have been interviewed on CNBC.....................
