There's also a lot of herbaceous plants growing in your area...one in particular I find very attractive:

It resembles a plant knowns as "Dusty Miller." It's a green plant with a silvery, nappy like surface...tiny silver hairs as I recall. The plant itself appears to be a mint family relative. It grows into a large spindly-legged bushy thing. Wonderful mint-like fragrance.

Most impressive to me was how it managed to survive at all in a land area literally destroyed by oil extraction techniques. Storage tanks were everywhere, depending upon gravity to separate solids from usable oil residues.

Looked like a piece of an alien planet best characterized by the line:

"Nobody gives a crap around here, just keep on walking."

Yet that plant continues to haunt me for it kept on keeping on while not much anything else could. There's a dignity in that, it's inescapable.
