In order for that to work on a standalone PC then it must already be running specialized malware and in that case they already have access to your bitcoin wallet. It's much easier to just insert a keylogger if you've compromised the PC.

This problem is a disaster for virtual machines. Amazon's EC or MS's Azure. Data from one VM can be accessed from other VM's due to this flaw. Most folks don't keep their bitcoin wallets on paid VM servers and if they do they've already been moved off. Encryption keys, passwords, etc, can be leaked from one cloud customer's server to another customer's server. I'm still trying to fathom the scope, it's just massive. Every CPU Intel has ever made. They're trying to suggest AMD and ARM are impacted too but not nearly as bad.

Microsoft tried to install their first patch today to Azure and took Western Europe completely down. I don't think they've recovered that yet.
