You're right that would be risky bet because institutional buyers may want to be in before news hits. Staying one step ahead with them would be good I think. Also the warrants deal will get you some more shares. Just remember you have to wait longer to be able to sell but that's not problem for the long run. Just make sure you don't get left behind BEFORE they start being more and more aggressive with their buying and the short position starts getting more and more nervous driving it up.
