Black Market Cannabis vs: Legal Recreational Cannabis. I have been a consumer of Cannabis for over 35 years and there are many similarities between the end of Cannabis Prohibition and the end of Alcohol Prohibition.

One of the main differences is QUALITY OF PRODUCT. During Alcohol Prohibition, the bootleggers were making very low quality alcohol (aka: Bathtub Gin) and they were selling on the Black Market and people were buying it because they had no legal alternative. You basically bought any kind of alcohol they had to offer and you were happy to get it.

Likewise, 10 years ago, you bought any kind of cannabis you could find on the Black Market because there was no alternative.

But now that Cannabis is legal in Colorado, Oregon, etc...the QUALITY and CHOICE of product has increase 1,000 fold. If you walk into a Cannabis Dispensary today, you will be overwelmed with choices and everything is HIGH GRADE grown by professional growers.

I understand that the Black Market Cannabis sellers do not pay taxes (but they should or the IRS will eventually get them)...BUT they DO NOT have a competitive advantage because of this.

MOST people do not know a drug dealer or where to purchase cannabis on the Black Market. BUT once legal, they just walk into a dispensary and buy it like they are buying a 6-pack of beer.

When was the last time you bought illegal booze made in someone's basement? Probably never. With an infinite amount of choices at the Liquor Store - why would you? Bud, Miller, Craft Beers, Jameson, etc...etc...etc...

Same principles apply. Eventually the Black Market for Cannabis will be extinct the same way the Black Market for Alcohol was at the end of Prohibition.
