Hedgebunny, One of the posters on the General Stock Ideas board (link below) called 'Bigworld' owns some New Gold Inc (NGD), which is a Canadian based miner with projects in Canada, US, Australia and Mexico. It's market cap is $2 Bil, so a small/mid cap.

I never really followed the miners that much myself, and only have the ETF (GDX). I'm more into owning the physical metals, but figure having some exposure to the miners gives some leverage.

I think Bigworld follows an analyst who recommends some small cap miners, which is how he learned about New Gold. It's a tricky sector though since the 5 year decline in gold prices has pushed some of the smaller miners close to bankruptcy, which is why I went with the larger caps (GDX) since the bigger companies can now acquire the weaker players on the cheap. I think investors who follow the small cap mining sector tend to be knowledgeable and dedicated since it's such a treacherous area and full of landmines -
