Everyone has forgotten how good mccullers was, just because the injuries held him back in the 2nd half. That is why the astros are better as well when Mccullers is healthy they have 3 starters that can go deep into game.
Severino will eventually in my opinion be that kind of pitcher, but he wasn't this year and you started seeing the bullpen deteriorate, so over time if you keep taking the starter out before 5 and keep going to the pen, you will eventually see the returns diminish, yanks pen wasn't great in 6 +7 starters didn't pitch anywhere close to half the game.
And yes verlander was difference maker as well.
Astros are a better team at this point. If the yanks acquire a starter combined with more experiance for severino (Primary thing), I think they will be in good shape next year. This isn't the red sox that need and overhaul here, they need a couple of big bats in the middle of the order. The Yankees need a little more experiance with another pitcher. The fact is Tanaka was real good in the playoffs, we need 1 more guy, plus severino and you guys will have as good of shot as anyone next year with that lineup who is very young and also needed playoff experiance in my opinion.
