Since individual shares lack control numbers like item records do, I am not sure how ownership gets determined.

Who can say on a given day who received a real share when they hit the trade button and who got naked short shares?

Maybe they can but if they can parse the trading so finely, then, if naked shorting exists, there is no excuse not to catch the problem every time.

Look if I get paid back everything I put in plus trading fees then I could half-way seeing resolving the naked shorting situation should NWBO skyrocket and it turns out naked shorting was real.

Half way see.

But why do I get the feeling that all the folks who averaged down like me will get told that the $6.00 and $10.00 shares we bought are the “real ones” and we won’t get paid back for those while the sub-$1.00 ones we bought are the “naked short shares” and that is what we’ll get compensated for - at face value and no more?

If they try that...well the class actions will ensue.
