Cattlemen are in the business to make money. If they could increase their profits by feeding their cattle sugar cane waste products then they would have started doing so DECADES ago. Some even tried but the damned cows didn't want to eat the stuff.

This is an affinity scam with a story, nothing more. And that story was played out long ago.
