It isn’t uncommon for a larger company to be sued and string along the smaller company when in fact they were using something else the whole time. I’ve been on the evil side of that as an employee.

BUT in this case I think it’s a unlikely as it’s a very widely used product and all they would have to do to check before going after the cable companies is open it up and look.
