Yea UFO I too find it odd that they were allowed to patent a natural substance - its sort of like saying I am going to patent chlorophyll .... but there are patent lawyers like North on here that can explain how and why it came about. I think it has more to do that the substance is patented for use in certain disease states as guided by the studies AMRN funded - which would seem to be fair return for the cost and risk of performing the studies - My guess is if you wanted to use EPA in some other avenue - ie it makes your laundry soap work better than the patents woudl not apply
