Dendritic cells: Helper in the activation of immune cells Instead of using tumor antigens directly as vaccines, one can also load certain immune cells outside the body with them: These so-called dendritic cells specialize in absorbing foreign substances and presenting them to other immune cells for detection. The hope: the immune system recognizes tumor antigens better, which is shown by dendritic cells. The immune cells are taken from the patient or the patient, loaded with antigens and activated.
