The FDA now permits this statement:

“Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.”



"EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids" = the naturally occurring form of fish oils, FFA-EPA and FFA-DHA. It does not say "EPA and DHA omega-3 ethyl esters" or refer to rTG form either. This is further confirmed when they mention "improve their health by identifying foods that contain these important compounds (EPA and DHA)" - clearly they are talking about foods and food additives (GRAS), a determination which EE-EPA and rTG-EPA have not been granted by the FDA. In contrast, the EE forms *have* been approved by FDA in V and L, as drugs, not GRAS.
