LOLOL!! Naturally, people are inclined to use simple passwords; passwords they can actually remember. That's how we all started out when the Internet was young. I began with a four letter password that I used for practically everything. But then I began buying stuff online, and for that I didn't want something that could easily be hacked.
So I began choosing unique passwords for different sites. And then the sites themselves began requiring longer passwords; at least 8 characters. More recently, they started insisting on the inclusion of at least one number, one upper case letter, and at least one "special character". And some make you change the password every six months or so.
My computer will remember most of them for me, though a few sites somehow disable that. I applaud their efforts to protect me, but it's a pain in the ass. I have them all written down... somewhere. Different places. And sometimes I can't find them, which is frustrating. Or I can find them, but can't figure out which is the most recent. I know, I know, I try to remember to write down the date with the new password, but...
Recently I saw a brief panel discussion of TV in the post-cable era. While the panelists liked the variety offered by Amazon, Hulu, Netflix and more, one woman said sadly: "But.. all the passwords!! You can't just turn on the TV anymore..."
I feel her pain.
