Gamble (verb): take risky action in the hope of a desired result

This would fall under putting money into a company that will most likely go bankrupt if they do not win court cases or achieve settlements. It has an even higher risk level when the patent they're taking everyone to court over is involved in an IPR case. These are not guaranteed wins just because a law firm is undefeated. Everyone is undefeated until they are defeated.
