STC costs relate to our efforts to gain approval from the FAA for modifications to Gulfstream III, IV and V business jets to upgrade them for Future Air Navigation System (“FANS”) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (“ADS-B”) capabilities. Regulatory mandates in the U.S and abroad will require FANS / ADS-B compliance on certain preferred air routes on a rolling basis over the next four years. Tempus was awarded this STC in the fourth quarter of 2016.
Updated : Tempus Billion Dollar Market Opportunity
Background
TEMPUS engineers have been working with Rockwell Collins past few years and have developed SMART ROUTING technology. This technology helps avoid air traffic congestion by using SMART ROUTING system. Last year TEMPUS received FANS/ADS-B certification from FAA and it is huge because it can now sell technology to any Airline Operators or Individuals who own private jets in the world. This technology can be used in any aircraft (Boeing or Airbus compatible) from small Business Jets to large Commercial Airlines to Cargo and Freight carriers.
Why this is important
Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) has mandate that requires all Aircrafts that operate in international air space to be FANS/ADS-B compliant by year 2020.
Market Size
The global market opportunity for this effort could be 40-60 billion dollars. This is based on number of aircrafts that will require modifications and cost per installation. TEMPUS plans to sell this technology at $400,000 per installation and there are about 100,000 - 160,000 aircrafts (according to FAA) that will need such modifications to be FANS/ADS-B compliant.
Some of the newly built aircrafts does have this installed but old ones require modifications.
TEMPUS can sell this technology to various airline operators such as Delta, United, Southwest, Continental Airlines etc.. locally. They can sell this technology to below foreign operators.
Europe : British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa Mid-East : Emirates, Etihad Far-East : Singapore Airlines, China Southern, Air India
There are hundreds of countries that have aircrafts that will require modifications.
Fleet Size & Revenue
Top airlines with largest fleet size (approx. numbers)
American Airlines : 1500 Planes Delta : 1200 Planes United : 1300 Planes SouthWest : 680 Planes FedEx Express : 640 Planes Lufthansa : 400 Planes Air France : 380 Planes
The company sells technology for $400,000 per installation. So for fleet size of 1000 i.e 400,000 X 1000 = 400 million revenue per operator.
I had email conversation with CEO about implementing this and he said they had plans to market this by late 2017.
FANS/ADS-B compliance is the most complex configurations that can be obtained. Europe had mandate to get compliant by 2015 but they couldn't and mandate pushed forward to 2018 for forward fit and 2020 for retro-fit. This is big opportunity for Tempus without a doubt. The deadline is aggressive and market is not ready for it. https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=132705722&txt2find=FANS
