Alzheimer’s Progression Sniff Test

A new research report states:

"This means that a simple smell test may potentially be able to give us information about the progression of the disease that is similar to the much more invasive and expensive tests of the cerebrospinal fluid that are currently being used,"

Might the efficacy of Anavex 2-73 be assessed using this sniff test? Certainly not in the up-coming Phase 3 clinical trial.

But, perhaps, general practitioners (after FDA approval) will have all of their middle-aged patients take an annual sniff test. Those who have increasing difficulty detecting the odors released after scratching the test card will be diagnosed at the earliest stage of approaching but sub-clinical Alzheimer’s. Prophylactic Anavex 2-73 therapy would begin, long before any gross Alzheimer’s symptoms appear.
