Why would an airport remove their current scanning equipment?

Short answer...
They won't.

A lot are currently using MMW passive scanners supplied by competition.
Those that aren't, are already in consideration for the existing MMW replacement currently in place and as such, won't unless TSA instructs the change and they won't do that until a lotta ground testing has been covered.

The sales feature here is not "infallible detection" which would give the TSA a woodie.
It's low to no radio emissions and that only excites people to replace what they currently have in operation who are exposed to it on a recurring basis.
Most air travelers are infrequent travelers.

Schools will like it because school kids will pass through it every day.

Sports stadiums won't flock to replace what they have because again, the people who frequent them are not at exposure risks.
But if they don't have one, they'll be attracted to its price and safety.

Businesses who need to scan employees will like it and will replace their radio scanners with it because employees pass through it every day.

etc. etc.
[IMO but common sense too]
