Thinking about Apple’s plan for 3 big manufacturing plants, Apple doesn’t manufacture parts or assemble their own devices. In the past Apple loaned GTAT money to fill Mesa with furnaces and guarantee a steady supply of sapphire screens, Apple also bought/Loaned CNC machines to Foxconn for the uni-body aluminium iPhones, recently Apple has bought machinery in Taiwan to help one of its suppliers fill component orders and is also rumoured to “chip in funds” to help Foxconn buy Toshiba memory unit. I’m sure there are more examples.

So Apple doesn’t operate manufacturing/assembly plants, they just set them up for other companies to run with the only exception i know of being the niche of niche Mac Pro and thats only in very small quantities.

With 3 big plants proposed, this would be a dramatic change in the way Apple does business. I can’t see Apple operating these plants themselves but i can see Apple partnering/setting-up with other companies in-order to secure parts/components for iDevices.

With some of Foxconn’s new plants taking care of assembly.

Now that LQMT owns Li’s cheap BMG formula and Apple taking an active role in securing supply for its iDevices, i see lots of potential for Lake Forest and beyond.

We have gone from hoping that Apple will mention use of LQMT in its products to actually supplying Apple. That is a HUGE change in LQMT’s business model. Much more profitable.
