To be fair, that's not necessarily "unimpressive". The Navy is willing to pay for promising people to attend excellent law schools. Someone I knew in college wanted to become an attorney, but knew she couldn't afford law school. So she joined the Navy. They sent her to Stanford.

However, Ritch's message is less clear. He got his JD "while working for the Navy"? Did he join, or did he have some kind of civilian job with them and go to night school?
