I just asked (at dinner tonight) my best friends wife, who was diagnosed with breast cancer while at a doctors appt for her first and only pregnancy. The dilemma for them at the time was left up to two choices.

1. Terminating the pregnancy, a lumpectomy and concurrent chemo and radiation therapy. This choice would have given her the best odds of survival but would have given up their baby with no ability to bear children in the future.

2. A lumpectomy, lower level chemotherapy until childbirth, and then concurrent higher chemo and radiation therapy to aggressively treat the cancer.

Many doctors recommended the first option. They however choose the second option, and delivered the only child they were able to have, and who now happens to be my daughters best friend. The mother has been cancer free for 12 years and enjoying life to the fullest, and her daughter is in perfect health despite being treated with chemo in the womb.

Ask them BR. They would be happy to tell you how blessed they are due to chemotherapy as it was a miracle drug for all of us!
