I see the issue of securing texts and emails well beyond the general populace who could care less. With texting and emails now being a prolific method of communication, those senior executives, congress critters, lawyers, etc. who would like their instant communications (because time is money) to be secure, would I'm sure migrate to a messaging app that could offer such security. I'm sure the DNC would like to have had VP on their servers well before 2016.
