They probably did if you found a really authentic Italian one. Come to think of it, I first had pizza on the boardwalk at Ocean City, New Jersey. There was a pizza place--only ONE--called Mack and Manco's.
As far as I can recall, they only made pies with tomato sauce and cheese. Today, I'd probably think it was terrible pizza, but back then it was new and different. After my initial experiences, I talked my parents into occasionally getting pickup from a local pizza place.
Then when I was 12, we moved to Indiana, where there was NO PIZZA AT ALL.
