Actually most medicine is focused on treating symptoms. By relieving the symptoms, the doctor buys time for the body to heal itself.

As for profits,that is why the USA is such a leader in developing new highly effective treatments. Profit is the measure of how well you are meeting a need.

"public" health hasnt produced many useful treatments, ask Cuba.
